The use of Microsoft software is solely subject to Microsoft\’s terms. When using Microsoft Software as a customer of AWS, you are fully responsible for complying with Microsoft licensing terms. This information is only provided as a guide for your convenience, and you should not rely on its descriptions nor consider it any form of legal advice. If you have questions about your licensing or rights to Microsoft software, please consult your legal team, Microsoft, or your Microsoft reseller.

The current Microsoft Product Terms are available for review here. What is the relationship between Microsoft and Amazon Web Services? What is the expanded support agreement between Amazon and Microsoft and how does it benefit me?

Does the expanded support agreement between AWS and Microsoft cover all support issues related to my applications running on Windows Server or Windows desktop? Does the extended support agreement between AWS and Microsoft replace my Microsoft support agreement? Are there regional restrictions on accessing the benefit of the expanded Support agreement with Microsoft?

How do I know if a specific Microsoft product is eligible for License Mobility? When can I bring my own license using EC2 instances with default tenancy? What\’s the difference between Dedicated Hosts and Dedicated Instances? Can I run multiple instance types on a Dedicated Host? How do I determine the number of licenses of Windows Server to bring in?

Which AWS regions are supported? Which one should I use? How do I switch to the new Windows Server Start screen? What are my options for running Microsoft software that is approaching EOS? What Amazon products and services are affected by EOS and when will changes be made?

Q: What options I have for in-places upgrade of my Win and Win instances? Will customers have to recreate their environment using other technologies in order to receive support from AWS or Microsoft?

AWS is also an authorized license mobility partner. Now AWS has further enhanced our support capabilities with a new additional direct engagement between AWS Support and Microsoft Support, to help ensure high quality support and issue resolution for our customers. To find more information on end of support EOS for Microsoft products go here. What is the expanded support agreement between Amazon and Microsoft, and how does it benefit me?

As a result of this expanded support agreement, AWS can engage directly with Microsoft to create the best possible support experience. If necessary, AWS Support can escalate issues directly to Microsoft and work with dedicated Microsoft support engineers to help ensure issues are addressed and resolved. AWS will not share any Customer information or specific details without your permission. The customer may be asked to document their authorization and permission for jointly engaging directly with Microsoft before AWS shares any Customer information or specific details.

No, this expanded support offering does not replace a direct Microsoft support agreement. This service provides assurance that issues that may arise between an AWS Service and Microsoft product e.

However, customers may run into other issues with their Microsoft applications that are separate from their AWS Services, and in this case customers should work directly through their Microsoft support relationship. AWS customers have the flexibility of bringing on-premises Microsoft volume licenses and deploying them on Amazon EC2 instances subject to Microsoft license terms. What are my licensing options for Microsoft software on Amazon EC2?

When you BYOL, the licensing cost of the product you bring is no longer included in the price of the instance. When you bring licenses, you are responsible for managing your licenses. Amazon EC2 has features such as AWS License Manager and targeted placement on Dedicated Hosts, which help you maintain license compliance throughout the lifecycle of your licenses. License Mobility is a Microsoft Software Assurance benefit that allows you to bring specific product licenses to shared cloud infrastructure, including default shared tenant Amazon EC2.

Active Software Assurance is required to be eligible for License Mobility. For more information on bringing licenses without Software Assurance or License Mobility benefits, please visit this section of the FAQ. This information is included in the Microsoft Product Terms. Every product has an individual Software Assurance section that indicates License Mobility eligibility.

EC2 dedicated infrastructure is always required in these scenarios. No, you must import and license your own media. Yes, when you launch an instance of your own image, your OS will prompt you to activate the image against your KMS.

Please read your licensing terms and conditions and select the AWS model that meets your needs. Generally speaking, there are various products and each have differing levels of BYOL support.

Amazon EC2 offers two purchasing options that provide you with dedicated infrastructure: Dedicated Hosts and Dedicated Instances. It is important to note that most BYOL scenarios are supported through the use of Dedicated Hosts, while only certain scenarios are supported by Dedicated Instances.

When you bring products that are licensed at the physical level only e. Windows Server, certain SQL Server licenses, etc Dedicated Hosts provide visibility into physical processor and core counts and are therefore the recommended deployment model. For more information on Dedicated Hosts, visit the Dedicated Hosts detail page. For more information on Dedicated Instances, visit the Dedicated Instances detail page. I\’ve read in my licensing terms that a license cannot move to another region or physical machine for at least 90 days.

When you enable Affinity between an instance and a Dedicated Host, that particular instance will only run on a specific Dedicated Host. Using Dedicated Host targeting, you can launch instances onto a specific Dedicated Host, giving you full control over how your licenses are used.

For more information on these features, visit the Dedicated Hosts detail page. Windows Server licenses must be purchased from AWS in this scenario. This service allows you to leverage your existing investments in the virtual machines that you have built to meet your IT security, configuration management, and compliance requirements by bringing those virtual machines into Amazon EC2 as ready-to-use instances.

EC2 Dedicated instances and EC2 Dedicated Hosts provide instance capacity on physical servers that are fully dedicated for your use. Dedicated infrastructure provides servers that are physically isolated for use by a single customer. If you bring existing licenses to Dedicated Hosts or Dedicated Instances, then you are using hardware that is fully dedicated to your use. A Dedicated Host is a physical EC2 server fully dedicated to you.

Amazon EC2 Dedicated Hosts allow you to use your eligible software licenses from vendors, including Microsoft, on Amazon EC2, so that you get the flexibility and cost effectiveness of using your own licenses, but with the resiliency, simplicity and elasticity of AWS. With Dedicated Hosts, you have an option to control instance placement and gain visibility into the number of sockets and cores installed on a host. Dedicated Hosts are often used when customers bring license that do not have Software Assurance or License Mobility benefits.

Please visit the Dedicated Host detail page for more information. Once setup, AWS takes care of these administrative tasks on your behalf, so that you can seamlessly launch virtual machines instances on Dedicated Hosts just like you would launch an EC2 instance with AWS provided licenses.

AWS License Manager helps track licenses used with Dedicated Host, and helps you stay compliant with your specified licensing rules such as 90 day affinity. Dedicated instances are Amazon EC2 instances that run on hardware that is dedicated to a single customer. For more information on Dedicated Instances, please visit the Dedicated Instance page. Both offerings provide instances that are dedicated to your use. However, Dedicated Hosts provide additional control over your instances and visibility into Host level resources and tooling that allows you to manage software that consumes licenses on a per-core or per-socket basis, such as Windows Server and SQL Server.

In addition, AWS Config will keep a record of how your instances use these Dedicated Host resources which will allow you to create your own license usage reports. In order to take full advantage of EC2 it is recommended that customers first consider bringing eligible licenses through License Mobility. Default tenancy EC2 allows customers to scale capacity up and down according to changing needs. This allows customers to pay only for what they use.

Dedicated Hosts are most cost effective when the host is highly utilized and in a steady, non-variable state. A Dedicated Host will support the BYOL scenarios outlined in this FAQ and provide customers with more control and visibility over how their instances are placed, which is useful for minimizing risk and licensing costs in a BYOL scenario. Windows is the most common product brought to Dedicated Hosts.

What are my options for bringing development licenses to AWS? AWS customers have options for bringing Microsoft developer products to AWS for use on test, development, and non-production workloads. EC2 Bare Metal offers default tenant and dedicated host options. The licenses must be deployed on EC2 Dedicated Hosts.

You have the option to launch instances onto a specific Dedicated Host, or you can let Amazon EC2 place the instances automatically based on your licensing preferences in AWS License Manager.

Controlling instance placement allows you to deploy applications to address licensing, corporate compliance, and regulatory requirements. You can run different instance sizes within the same instance family on a Dedicated Host using AWS Nitro instance family. This allows you to maximize utilization of your Dedicated Host fleet as well as your software licenses. How do I import and use my own Windows Server license? Visit this link for more information on how to bring your own machine images into AWS.

Keep in mind that when you choose to bring in your existing Windows Server licenses, you cannot utilize Windows Server AMIs that you purchase from AWS through license-included instances.

You must bring in your own licenses using your own software media. These changes are paired with Host level data, such as the Host ID and the number of sockets and physical cores installed on a Dedicated Host. AWS Config will also keep track of instance tags. We recommend that you tag your instances with a meaningful identifier if you would like a human-readable way to identify BYOL instances in the AWS Config output.

Visit this page for more information on AWS Config. Visit the Dedicated Hosts detail page for information on the number of instances available per Dedicated Host. On this page you will also find the number of sockets and cores installed on each EC2 Dedicated Host.

How to upgrade from Windows Server to Windows Server R2 (Standard Edition)? – Super User

In-place upgrades from bit to bit architectures are not supported. All editions of Windows Server R2 are bit only. There is no \”Migration\” it is an in-place upgrade you are performing. No different than if you are upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows You.

Tips for an easy upgrade from Windows Server to Windows Server R2 | TechRepublic

On the 1 st of August, Microsoft released Windows Server — the sixth release of the Windows Server product family. On May 21 stWindows Server R2 was introduced and is now the latest version of Windows Server in the market.

Microsoft has released four different editions of Windows Server varying in cost, licensing and features. This edition of Windows Server is targeted towards small businesses of up to 15 users. Foundation edition can be implemented in environments where features such as file sharing, printer sharing, security and remote access are required. The Windows Server R2 Essentials edition is the next step up, also geared towards small businesses of up to 25 users.

Windows Server R2 Essentials edition is available in retail stores around the world making it easy for businesses to install the new operating system without necessarily purchasing new hardware. Windows По ссылке R2 Essentials edition can run a single instance of virtual machine on Hyper V, a feature that was not available in Windows Server Essentials non-R2 edition.

This single virtual machine instance can be Windows Server R2 Essential edition only, seriously limiting the virtualization options but allowing companies to begin exploring the benefits of the virtualization platform.

The Standard edition is able to support an unlimited amount of users, as long as the required user licenses have been purchased. We should note that the Standard edition supports up to 2 Virtual Machines.

The Windows Server R2 Datacenter edition is the flagship product created to meet the needs of medium to large enterprises. The major difference between the Standard and Datacenter edition is that the Datacenter edition allows the creation of unlimited Virtual Machines and is therefore suitable for environments with extensive use of virtualization technology.

Before purchasing the Windows Server operating system, it is very important to understand the difference between various editions, the table below shows the difference between the four editions of Windows Server For example, a CAL assigned to a user, allows only that user to access the server via any device. Likewise, if a DAL is assigned to particular device, in-place upgrade of windows server 2012 r2 foundation to windows server 2012 r2 standard free any authenticated user using that device is allowed to access the server.

We can use a simple example to help highlight the practical differences between CAL and DAL licensing models and understand the most cost-effective approach:. Assume an environment in-place upgrade of windows server 2012 r2 foundation to windows server 2012 r2 standard free Windows Server R2 standard edition and a total of 50 users and 25 devices workstations.

In this case, we can purchase either 50 CAL licenses to cover the 50 users we have or alternatively 25 DAL licenses to cover the total amount of workstations that need to access the server. In this scenario, purchasing DALs is a more cost effective solution. If however we had 10 users with a total of 20 devicese. Windows Server Foundation is available to OEMs Original Equipment Manufacturers only and therefore can only be purchased at the time of purchasing a n new hardware server.

Windows Foundation edition supports up to 15 users. In addition, Foundation edition owners cannot upgrade to other editions. The Essential edition of in-place upgrade of windows server 2012 r2 foundation to windows server 2012 r2 standard free is available to OEMs with the purchase of new hardware and also at retail stores.

The user limit of this server edition is 25 and device limit is This means that a maximum of 25 users amongst 50 computers can access the Windows Server Essentials edition. For example, you have 20 users rotating randomly amongst 25 computers accessing the Server Essentials edition, without any problem. A common question at this point is what if the organization expands and increases its users and computers?

In these cases Microsoft provides an upgrade path allowing organizations to upgrade to the Windows Server Standard or Datacenter edition license and perform an in-place license transition. Once the transition is complete, the user limitation, and other features are unlocked without requiring migration or reinstallation of the server.

Companies upgrading to a higher edition of Windows Server should keep in mind that it will be necessary to purchase the required amount of CALs or DALs according to their users or devices. Administrators will be happy to know that it is also possible to downgrade in-place upgrade of windows server 2012 r2 foundation to windows server 2012 r2 standard free Standard edition of Server to the Essentials edition.

For example, it is possible to run Essential edition of Server as virtual machine utilizing one of two available virtual instances in Standard edition as shown in the figure below. This eliminates the needs to purchase Essential edition of Server Download Now! Unlike Windows Server Essentials non-R2you can now run a single instance of a virtual machine.

The server licensing rights have been expanded, allowing you to install an instance of Essentials on your physical server to run the Hyper-V role with none of the other roles and features of the Essentials Experience installedand a second instance of Essentials as a virtual machine VM on that same server with all the Essentials Experience roles and features.

Definition of a socket is a CPU or physical processor. Logical cores are not counted as sockets. A single license of Standard and Datacenter edition covers up to two physical processors per physical server. Standard edition allows up to 2 virtual instances while the Datacenter edition allows unlimited number of virtual instances. For example, a Windows Server R2 Standard edition installed on a physical server with one socket CPU can support up to two instances of virtual machines.

These virtual machines can be Server Полезная adobe acrobat pro dc jalantikus free download отличный Standard or Essentials edition. Similarly, if you install a Windows Server R2 Datacenter edition in-place upgrade of windows server 2012 r2 foundation to windows server 2012 r2 standard free, then you can install an unlimited number of virtual machines. Scenario 2 : Install Server Standard Edition on a physical server with 1 physical processor, running 8 instances of virtual machines.

A total of 50 users will be accessing the server. Remember that a single Standard edition license covers up to two physical processors and up to two instances of virtual machines.

Since the requirement is to run 8 instances of virtual machines, we need four Standard edition licenses. If we decided to use 1/29743.txt Datacenter edition in this scenario, a single license with 50 CAL would be enough to cover our needs, because the Datacenter edition license supports an unlimited number of virtual instances and up to two physical processors.

Compute Engine provides public images with Windows Server that you can use to create instances. For more general information about Windows Server instances and Windows applications that you can run on Compute Engine, see Windows on Compute Engine. Windows Server images are premium images, and using them results in additional charges. To create an instance with Windows Server, specify the image family for the specific version of Windows that you need.

For a list of the available image families, see public images. If you plan on using Microsoft Active Directory AD with your new instance, make sure the instance name is no longer than 15 characters, to meet the stated maximum name length restrictions of the system.

As a result, you might encounter the following error when trying to sign in as a domain user: The Security Database on the Server does not have a Computer Account for this Workstation Trust Relationship. This section describes how to create a Windows Server instance that has an external IP address. Your VPC network must be configured to allow access to kms. Go to Create an instance. To create a Shielded VM Windows instance, do the following:. Optionally, to change the VM\’s Shielded VM settings, expand the the Networking, disks, security, management, sole tenancy section.

Then, do the following:. If you want to turn off integrity monitoring, clear the Turn on Integrity Monitoring checkbox. For more information, see Integrity monitoring. Use the compute images list command to see a list of available Windows Server images:. Use the compute instances create command to create a new instance and specify the image family for one of the Windows Server public images.

If you chose an image that supports Shielded VM, you can optionally change the instance\’s Shielded VM settings using one of the following flags:.

Integrity monitoring lets you monitor the boot integrity of your Shielded VM instances using Cloud Monitoring. To create an instance with the API, include the initializeParams property in your instance creation request and specify a Windows image.

For example, your request body might look like the following:. If you chose an image that supports Shielded VM , you can optionally change the instance\’s Shielded VM settings by using the following boolean request body items:. Integrity monitoring lets you monitor and verify the runtime boot integrity of your Shielded VM instances using Cloud Monitoring reports. For more information about creating an instance, read the instances. Before you can create a Windows Server instance that has only an internal IP address, you must verify or configure routes and firewall rules in your VPC network to allow access to kms.

When you create a new instance by using the gcloud CLI, you can use the –no-address flag to ensure that it is not assigned an external IP address:.

Because this instance does not have an external IP address, you cannot connect to it directly over the Internet. For Windows activation and renewal, your VPC network must meet the following routing and firewall rule requirements.

Your Windows instances must be able to reach kms. You can use the default route in your VPC network to route traffic directly to kms. If you remove this route, or if you plan to do so in the future, create a custom static route with destination Either the default route or a custom static route as described above will permit instances with external IP addresses to reach kms.

That IP address, The implied allow egress firewall rule allows instances to make requests and receive established responses. Unless you have created custom firewall rules that deny egress, your Windows instances can communicate with kms. If you customize firewall rules, it\’s a good practice to create a high priority egress allow rule that explicitly permits communication with This way, as you modify your firewall rules, you won\’t accidentally disable Windows activation.

The following gcloud examples creates the recommended allow egress rule with the highest priority:. Windows instances experience a longer startup time because of the sysprep process.

The console might show that the instance is running even if the sysprep process is not yet complete. To check if your instance has successfully started and is ready to be used, check the serial port output with the following command:. If you have Windows instances with image versions v and later or with agent version 4.

The config file is in INI format, and is located at the following path:. The system overrides configuration settings in the following order of priority from the highest priority to the lowest priority:. For example, if you can enable the accountManager feature in a config file, your instance ignores parameters that you set in custom metadata to disable that feature.

One benefit of setting these parameters in the config file is that those settings persist when you create a custom image for a Windows Server instance.

Instance-level custom metadata does not persist beyond the life of the instance. Disabling the account manager also disables resetting passwords with the Google Cloud CLI or the console:.

In custom metadata, set disable-account-manager to true in metadata. In custom metadata, set disable-address-manager to true in metadata. In custom metadata, set enable-wsfc to true in metadata. Specify the IP address of the internal load balancing instance for failover clustering. This is an advanced configuration that you don\’t need to set for a dedicated failover cluster. Normally you use an instance of internal load balancing to direct network traffic to one VM instance at a time.

If you add a second instance of internal load balancing that uses the failover clustering VM instances as part of a load-balanced website backend, you would have two internal load balancing IP addresses. If failover clustering uses This disambiguates which address is in use for the cluster. In custom metadata, set wsfc-addrs to a Set the failover clustering agent port. The default port is You need to specify a port only when you want to use a different port:.

In custom metadata, set wsfc-agent-port to the port number. Older images do not use a config file and only have a subset of features.
