It\’s good, and for most users the free mode works just fine. Still not a fan of having the trial expiration seem so urgent but free mode works well enough and has no nags for a sub. It\’s still a nice editor, I don\’t know enough about the premium features to buy it so I don\’t feel like I\’m missing anything.

Reading many reviews on the App store I\’m disappointed to find some many fellow Mac users so poorly informed before posting a review. For those complaining about a subscription. You can buy a license directly from Barebones. It\’s just not an App store option. For the record, if you want to keep BBedit up to date and were in the habit of buying and paying the upgrade price, the subscription is not substantially different. Granted, with the perpetual license, you have an option to skip a version or two, so if that\’s appealing, go that route.

People are whining about Barebones being greedy. I don\’t expect anyone at the company is living in million dollar houses with cars that cost 6 figures. It\’s very hard to keep a software company running for any length of time, much less one that focuses on what is essentially and product for a much more limited audience. Which for a professional developer, is still reasonable.

There are more enhancements I would like to see though. I would love mixed language support. If I insert from Javascript in an html page, I expect the Javascript to be properly color coded. When I click in the Javascript section, I expect code completion. Visual good editing good functions suggestion good but no auto-complete that\’s irritaing wouldn\’t have moved back to sublime if this wold have exised. My favorite editor was \”Breif\” way back when, and I have been seaching for a replacement that I could like as much, for a long, long time.

This was made even harder when I changed from PC\’s to Mac. It\’s certainly a Great editor. I only use the free mode, but this app so useful. Historically, one of the best text editors out there This has historically been a mainstay for text editing, and still deserves mention. Free Works It\’s good, and for most users the free mode works just fine. Always good I\’ve happy used this app for a decade or more.
