In the section \”Player\” , select the \”Control\” tab. Click on \”Virtual Machine Settings\” and then select \”Hardware\”. Then just select the desired virtual network adapter and change the settings. When configuring a bridged network, the virtual machine uses the physical network adapters in the host system to connect to the network.

This is often the easiest way. In this case, the virtual machine is regarded as an additional computer on the same physical network as the host system. A virtual machine and other virtual machines configured for bridging networking can transparently use all the services and resources available on the network. You can limit the number of physical network adapters to which a virtual switch connects if automatic bridging is configured.

At the same time, the VM and the host system use the same identifier, which is not visible outside the network. Since the virtual machine does not have its own IP address, a separate private network is configured on the host system, and the virtual machine receives an address on this network from the VMware virtual DHCP server. VMware NAT tool transfers network data between virtual machines and the external network, and also identifies incoming data packets and sends them to their destination.

In this case, the Workstation Player creates a VPN between the virtual machine and the host system, and the VPN is usually not visible outside the host system.

If you configure multiple virtual machines to network with only a host on the same host system, they will be on the same network. When using a LAN segment, a private network is used that can be shared with other virtual machines. This is often used by business analysts to analyze network performance and situations, as well as for multi-tier testing when virtual machine isolation is important.

Clicking on the Add Network button adds more virtual networks and the Remove Network button to remove them.

It will save you valuable time. A pretty useful feature is the ability to change the MAC address of an adapter as well as set incoming and outgoing network traffic to simulate real speeds. These settings can be found on the Advanced button. In addition to other positive points, you can create as many LAN segments as you want without limitation, but also give them your own names to make them easier to identify to you.

This is particularly convenient when setting up a fairly complex virtual lab. These are, very briefly, some of the virtual networking capabilities in VMware Workstation. The truth is that as you use different scenarios in your virtual lab, you will need to use and learn how all network types work. Personally, I use LAN segments in my own virtual lab. Contact Homelab. Network types in VMware Workstation There are three types of virtual networks: Bridged, Host-Only, and NAT, which are already predefined since the first installation of the application.

Thank you so much. A virtual machine is like a computer in a computer. It behaves like a physical computer in a virtualized environment.

For virtual machines to run in our devices, we would need Virtual Machine applications. VMware provides virtualization products and solutions where desktop virtualization tools are part of. VMware Workstation Player is a desktop virtualization tool. It allows us to deploy a virtual machine in Linux and Windows PC. It is free of charge for personal use. You\’ll need to pay for a license. It has more functionality and features compared to Workstation Player though, such as running multiple virtual machines, virtual machine cloning, and it gives you the convenience of taking snapshots and rolling the lab back easily to a previous state when desired.

It allows Linux and Windows virtual machines to run on Mac computers. We\’ll also take a look at how to configure connectivity to the lab from your PC\’s network card, which allows you to use an SSH client like Putty to connect to the virtual machine command lines.

This is more convenient than working in the native VMware console window where you can\’t copy and paste commands. You can download the eBook here. And you can get the entire video series here.
